Why look at your palms in the morning?

A great day starts with looking at good things with our eyes. For this, Indian sages

have given us the sacrament of looking at your palms upon waking up in the

morning or ‘Kar Darshan’ where 'Kar' means hands and 'Darshan' means to see.

When you wake up from slumber in the morning, open your palms together like a

book and look at your palms whilst reading the following Sanskrit verse given below. As per

scriptures this shloka or mantra improves a person’s condition in life and increases luck.

कराग्रे वसते लक्ष्मीः करमध्ये सरस्वती ।

करमूले तु गोविन्दः प्रभाते करदर्शनम ॥

Karagre Vasate Lakshmi: Karamadhye Saraswati.

Karmule tu govindah: Prabhate kardarshanam

Meaning: 

The front of my hand is the residence of the Goddess of wealth Lakshmi. The

central part of my palm is the abode of the Goddess of knowledge, Saraswati.

And the origin of my palm at the base is where Lord Govinda or Vishnu resides.

Vishnu sustains this world and empowers us with good Karma and Dharma.

We receive the grace of God in life to become the pioneer and creator of our lives filled with righteous knowledge and abundant wealth. The basic idea of looking at our palms is that we believe in our good karma or duties to sustain us in this world.

We pray to God to do such deeds that bring knowledge, wealth, and happiness in

our lives. This 'shloka' or mantra also teaches us that we should not use our hands to do any bad work but rather to use them to help other people. 

Reading these lines also teaches us to earn a livelihood by not remaining dependent

on others but to create work for the betterment of others and for ourselves.
